Two-Alarm House Fire Breaks Out on Dalton Division Road

A house fire broke out in Pittsfield over the weekend, and thankfully everyone made it out safe.

It happened on Sunday night just before 9 p.m. Firefighters were called to 622 Dalton Division Road for a possible structure fire. The homeowner had called a neighbor to say his house was on fire, and that neighbor called it in.

Pittsfield Fire responded with four engines, a tower truck, and the on-duty Deputy Chief all showed up. When the first engine arrived, crews saw smoke coming from the two-story wood-frame home. Firefighters quickly found two separate fires burning inside, one in the kitchen on the first floor and another in a bedroom upstairs.

Crews split up to fight both fires at once. One team went after the kitchen fire while another dragged a hose line up to the second-floor bedroom. Other firefighters helped ventilate the building and worked on cleanup once the flames were out. A backup crew stood by in case anyone needed rescuing, and one more engine came out just to be safe.

Firefighters had the fire under control in 45 minutes.

Nobody got hurt. The only person living in the house was the owner, and he was not home when the fire broke out. He had somewhere else to stay for the night since the house is too damaged to live in right now, even though it can be salvaged.

The kitchen and the upstairs bedroom took the worst of the damage from fire and heat. The rest of the house has smoke and water damage. There is no cost estimate yet.

Fire investigators are now working with Pittsfield Police to figure out the cause of the fire.
